Kitchen and bathroom improvements increase the value of your house more than most renovations and offer the highest average return on investment.
The kitchen is the heart of a home - People gather and spend a lot of time there, so renovations that improve the kitchen make sense. When remodelling the kitchen, remember to keep the project in line with the style and quality of the rest of the house and neighbourhood.
Bathroom addition/remodelling - If your home has only one bathroom, a bathroom addition should be one of your top priorities. Upgrading an outdated bathroom will enhance the value of your home and add to your daily comfort and enjoyment.
Adding living space—either by finishing an unused basement, knocking down a wall to open up the living space or putting an addition on your home is the next most popular reason to renovate.
Even the little touch ups like painting, tiling, new baseboards, new windows and doors can go a long way in making your space look refreshed, revitalized and rejuvenated. Get in touch with Allegria homes firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss ideas for your next project.
This project was all about transforming a dark & dreary living room back into the main focal point of the house.
Before: An outdated space, this living room had good bones, but the old brick fireplace, worn cork floors, golden oak finishings and a well-used slide door leading to outdoors, left our clients wanting more for their active, energetic family.
After: Working together with our client's vision to revamp their space; we said goodbye to the aged brick fireplace, replaced the floors with a modern vinyl plank, knocked out the railing, and built a custom bench seat with storage. This modern living room is now flooded with light from the new garden doors and two additional windows, transforming this space into the brightest room in the house!
See How They Reclaimed Their Space
As a homeowner looking to create a new space or renovate an outdated space, it is easy to get caught up in the design of the final product and steer your budget towards finishes and decor.
Remember to spend time thinking about your project from inside - to out, inside is what holds your house together, and keeps it dry, safe, and standing.
Think of your house as a system. It is much more than just four walls and a roof — it’s an interactive system made up of many components including the basic structure, insulation, heating, ventilation, plumbing, and electrical equipment. Each component influences the performance of the entire system.
A renovation provides an opportunity to improve how your house performs. Leave room in your budget to upgrade what’s hidden inside the walls and in your mechanical room, to do it right the first time. Not only will this save time and money down the line but it will make for a cleaner more efficient space for you and your family.
Updating a home to be an efficient home, sometimes means:
*Replacing insulation, vapour barrier or old plaster. Many older homes have high heating requirements because of high rates of air leakage and building envelope areas that are not well insulated. Adequate home insulation can save up to 50% in heating costs.
*Replacing your furnace, hot water tank, electrical, and plumbing fixtures to more efficient units and bring them up to today’s standards. With today’s skyrocketing energy costs, homeowners more than ever are seeking energy saving home improvements
Whether it’s electrical, plumbing, HVAC, roofing, foundations, or even mould evaluation, a licensed contractor is qualified to make sure it meets proper building code and safety guidelines.
A licensed contractor can offer two valuable bits of information: Does the system meet minimum building code standards? If the answer is “no”, what will it cost to bring the home up to safe standards?
Hiring a licensed contractor, home inspector or contacting a licensed energy advisor will ensure that you will get the information you need to think “Inside-Out” and complete the best renovation possible. To discuss your home renovation requirements, contact Allegria Homes at email@example.com.
